Along the Muslim Paths

On this trip you will get to know one of the last Muslim strongholds on the peninsular, you'll walk along stone paths, through fields of almond and cherry trees divided by dry stone walls. An enthusiastic, professional local guide will tell you about the history, the myths and the present situation of the region.

The Valley
Still within reach of the Mediterranean breeze, this valley has always been
separated from the nearby coast by steep craggy hills. Deep ravines with capricious forms run the length of the steep-sided valley, where the Muslim heritage reaches its maximum expression. In the centre of the valley, three small villages form a single municipality.

History
It was to this rugged and arid land to which the last Muslims were pushed after the Recon quest, and where the last rebellions took place before final expulsion in 1609. Thousands of terraces had to be built to squeeze a living from these rocky mountains.

Rocky paths
These paths, built centuries ago with enormous effort as a means of communication between villages, fountains and corrals, zigzag across deep ravines and climb mountains. Today, thanks to these paths we can walk through this spectacular landscape and discover the hidden corners of this magic microcosm.

Food and Rest
The hotel Alahuar extends a typical hospitable welcome and offers a wonderful view of the entire valley. After every excursion you will be able to enjoy a well-earned rest with all the comforts you could ever want and sample the best dishes of the rich Mediterranean cuisine. The simple cordiality will make you feel at home.
Several of the excursions start on foot from the hotel, which is at 5-minute walk from the village. (Photos of the Hotel, the valley and the paths)
